the scent of stone
I’m thrilled and anxious to release my very first perfume, Stone, into the world. This project has been a long-winded process of learning, experiencing, experimenting, sensing, and making. I never intended to make this concept into a wearable fragrance, as it came to be through a collaborative candle project with Candle Object (still for sale here!). But, after some requests, it felt like a call to pursue was worthwhile . . .
Stone began as an exploration into the sensory experience of stonehood — immersed in earth and growth, smoothed and nurtured by time. I wanted to capture the birth and death of the world around this steadfast natural form. Making this practice encompassed many seasons of my life, which I feel is integral to my own personal experience of the scent. Mint leaf echoes moments of making in the studio during the winter. Crisp, sweet herbaceousness, which characterizes the top notes of stone, couples with the beginnings of fresh green growth into Spring. The heart brings it closer to the ground: dry, faintly smoky vetiver mingles with damp soil akin to petrichor. At last, Stone dries down to a smooth cedar and comforting musks: the feeling of a weathered stone in hand, somehow, by chance, fitting perfectly in the palm.
My dear friend and studio mate Ren Schwarz’s creative direction is a vital life force behind the reality of this fragrance. Thank you Ren for your collaboration and understanding. I can’t wait to make more together.
For now, Stone is available by pre-order in parfum concentration at 30 ml for $55. The bottles will ship out on or before August 26th, with local pick-up options in Richmond that week. After this time, I will have a limited amount of bottles available for purchase at a slightly higher cost. I only anticipate making Stone only once, so now is the time if you’re curious!
With gratitude,
Liza
