new chapter
I wasn’t planning on emailing this thread so soon after the stone project launch (which we still have more for sale here!), but this feels like the best email list I’ve got to share when I’ve got new life updates. And, well, I have just that:
This week is the first after departing my job. I’ve never had a period of unemployment and didn’t plan on having one, but a lot of signs from the universe were pointing to this being the right call for me. I have spent every moment of my adult life drowning in a sea of work and personal projects, and in the process lost track of a lot of myself and got used to being functionally burnt-out. I’ve felt for the past 6 months that a change was inevitable and decided recently that to actualize that I needed to clear space for it. So, for now, I’m using this moment of respite to be open to the possibilities of the unknown and embrace what happens to show up for me next.
That said, I’m reaching out into the Food Notes-verse to say I'm officially open to new professional / creative opportunities — both full-time and freelance. I have 10 years of experience in editing, research, writing, programming, and operations. I'm specifically excited to collaborate on projects surrounding sustainability, environmental history, food/agriculture, information accessibility, archives, art history, and film. That said, I’m a passionate learner and love to dive into new things. When I started my last job, I knew pretty much nothing about environmental histories, and now, I’ve found an interest that I’m excited to carry with me for the rest of my life.
Forgive me for co-opting this newsletter for my life updates. Now that I have the time, I will be re-imagining this Substack for more food writing in the near future. I’m eagerly awaiting my sourdough starter to be ready after I dehydrate and revive it soon.
As a treat for making it this far, here are some pictures of moments that were important to me recently:
Oh, and PS if you are interested in buying a bottle of the stone fragrance as a perfume, let me know. I am working on a skin safe reformulation and I’ll be making some made-to-order bottles. I’ll make sure you’re on the list when I’m ready as supplies will be limited. There are more perfume projects on the horizon as well . . .
With excitement for the future,
Liza
